The Northeast High athletic program is an integral part of the experience of attending Northeast High School. We have always felt that a successful athletic program should work in conjunction with academics to form well-rounded students.Understanding the role of athletics as a supplement to the academic program, our coaches at Northeast High are utilized in the classroom as English, Math, and History teachers. This allows them to keep a proper prospective of the role they serve as coaches. The Viking-Warrior athletic program has a rich tradition that has carried on to this day. The Viking football team has won more play-off games since 2000 than all other East Baton Rouge Parish schools combined. Three trips to the state semi-finals in the last twelve years is unmatched by any public school in the region. The Viking track teams have set the standard for public schools not just in the parish, but in the state. Three state championships and two additional state runner-up finishes since the year 2000 is unmatched. In addition to this, Northeast High offers both Boys and Girls Basketball, Softball, Baseball, Volleyball and soon-to-be wrestling. Multiple sports offered to both sexes throughout the year are part of being a Northeast High Viking. Throughout the school year, athletic events are occurring both at home and throughout the state. Opportunities for participation are limited only by the student-athlete themselves. Even with this success, the Viking athletic teams understand that their goal and purpose is to prepare their participants for success both in the classroom and in life. A proper perspective of the role of athletics in the school is stressed to both coaches and athletes. All participants are ingrained that they are students first and student athletes always.
