Northdale Superintendent's Academy
To provide a quality education to non-traditional learners. The program provides a safe and nurturing environment, which allows students to develop their potential as they prepare for college and career-readiness education and the workforce.
To provide a supportive, engaging and challenging education that prepares non-traditional high school students to be responsible and productive citizens. The program emphasizes academic, social, and 21st century skills development. Northdale Superintendent’s Academy utilizes flexible scheduling, blended learning, course choice, support services, and community and situated learning experiences to develop a learning environment that promotes personal responsibility, community involvement, academic development, and career readiness.
Northdale Magnet Academy was created in 1986 as a result of business, community and educational leaders coming together to solve the growing dropout problem. Begun as a joint partnership between the Greater Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce and the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, Northdale was the first diploma bound alternative high school in the state of Louisiana. The school’s founder, Mr. Leroy Helire, served as principal for Northdale until his retirement in 2014. Students who attend this nationally acclaimed high school complete the same curriculum and master the same high stakes tests as all public high school students. What makes Northdale different is its non-traditional approach to learning. Visit the campus of this model school and you will see students seeking a second chance for a dream once forgotten–the dream of earning a high school diploma.
