The Brownfields Library Media Center is dedicated to the learning, information skills, and reading skills of all students and the support of the faculty in their efforts to educate all students. The media center offers access to reference materials, databases, books, ebooks, magazines, and the internet to help further students’ growth as information consumers. We hope to instill in our students a life-long love of reading and learning and the skills to be competitive in an information rich society.

Creating Readers for Tomorrow
All students at BEMS from K-5th are participating in the Accelerated Reader Program. This is a reading program in which students areread within their ZPD, or reading range, based on reading and vocabulary in a test called STAR. Once students have their ZPD, they are to read books within this range to help them improve their reading comprehension, fluency and vocabulary. Students take quizzes for each book read on computer and accumulate points based on the difficulty and size of the books read. Students are then rewarded monthly and at the end of the year through the library.
Some teachers use AR as a grade in their classroom, others use it as an incentive. Please, check with your child’s teacher to see their classroom policies for AR. Students may test in the classroom or library.
